Other apps offer different arrangements: Monefy synchronizes one data set, Spendee provides a shared wallet, Expense offers shared budgets, and Moneon identifies the author of each family-wallet expense. Decide what both people should be able to see and edit before choosing.

Expensa: household purchases alongside personal records
A Space in Expensa holds its own accounts, transactions, categories and budgets. Keep personal spending in one Space, create another for the household, and invite your partner through iCloud. Inviting someone into the household Space does not add your personal Space to the shared records. Editing permission lets a participant add and change shared entries; read-only access does not.
Consider an illustrative €600 monthly household budget. One partner records a €48 grocery purchase in the household Space, leaving €552 if there are no other expenses. A coffee recorded in their personal Space stays out of that household total. You can follow common spending while maintaining your own expense records.
The free plan includes one Space. Keeping personal and household Spaces together needs additional Spaces, and creating a shared Space also requires Premium. Both iPhones need working iCloud access; synchronization depends on connectivity and iCloud status. A shared budget does not automatically calculate debts between partners.

Monefy offers quick manual entry and synchronization through your own Google Drive or Dropbox. Consider it when both partners want the same transaction list. Multiple accounts inside that list do not establish separate private profiles. Before adding personal history, check which records synchronize and who can see them. Confirm the required sync plan in the app.
CoinKeeper: visual monthly planning
CoinKeeper combines monthly budgets, a visual interface and cloud-based family records. Consider it if viewing accounts and categories together makes planning easier. Check the second person’s access, personal-record visibility and current Premium terms before choosing it for your household.
Expense: several shared budgets
Expense supports multiple budgets, transactions by user and iCloud. Shared budgets require Premium. Consider it for separate household and holiday plans; check personal-budget visibility after inviting your partner.
Spendee: a shared wallet with separate limits
In Spendee, both people can add, edit and delete shared-wallet transactions. The owner needs Plus or Premium; guests can use Free. Each user configures their own budget, even when it counts the same household spending. This suits couples who want common records and individual limits. Check its pricing page for plan options.
Moneon: see who added a household expense
Moneon identifies each transaction’s author in family records. Its App Store description puts shared wallets in Premium, while personal wallets and basic budgets are free. Consider it when knowing who logged an entry matters. Check access to personal wallets separately.
Choose an arrangement and try it together
Consider Expensa for personal and household records in separate Spaces, Monefy for one common log, or Expense for several shared budgets. Use the table to match the other options to the access arrangement you need.
Before transferring your history, make a short check:
- Add a household purchase on one iPhone and find it on the other.
- Add a personal purchase and confirm that only the intended people can see it.
- Check editing, deletion and how to revoke a participant’s access.
Agree who maintains categories and how you record cash. If you first need to choose a planning approach, read the iPhone budgeting app comparison. For personal tracking without paying, see the free expense tracker comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Does a shared wallet mean one shared budget?
A wallet collects transactions; a budget sets a spending limit. In Spendee, people share a wallet but each user keeps their own budget settings.
Can we keep personal purchases out of the household records?
Expensa’s personal and household Spaces hold separate records. Invite your partner only to the household Space. In other apps, check access to each wallet or budget.
Do both partners need to pay?
It depends on the app. Spendee requires Plus or Premium for the wallet owner, while guests can use Free. Creating a shared Space in Expensa requires Premium. Expense and Moneon also charge for sharing; check participant terms before purchasing.
Will a shared budget calculate what one partner owes the other?
Not automatically. Recording household spending and settling debts are separate functions. Do not choose Expensa as an automatic calculator of debts between partners.
